Diwali Dhamaka 2019
Diwali Dhamaka 2019 on November 2nd 2019, in London, ON, was attended by 1100 attendees, including scores from the Greater Toronto Area. The grand venue at Centennial Hall set the stagest for one of our best Diwali celebrations yet, in the last 8 years.
Diwali dinner commenced on schedule at 5:00 p.m. 1100 attendees were served a sumptuous Indian cuisine in the dining hall. At 6:00 pm, celebrations got to a start in the main auditorium with games.
To have maximum people participate and for it to also be a learning experience, attendees played KAHOOT, with a wide range of questions and all of this was displayed on the giant screen to make it more interactive. A couple of 100 participated with lots of fun, of which there were three winners, who won prizes.
Lakshmi Puja was at 6:30pm and was lead by Pandit Shukla ji.
The entertainment session got off to start right on time at 6:50 p.m. The segment opened with OHM Rocks, a 17 member High School band, that sang in multiple languages. This was followed by a combination of community performers, both bollywood, classical and folk and the world famous Shiamak Davar Dance Company
Dr. Vikrant Singh Tomar was the Chief Guest at the event and delivered a powerful message of Diwali, in a short dynamic and engaging talk to the audience, during the cultural block.
A video presentation on Srishti’s service (Seva) activities in London and overseas was presented. The highlight was the presence of the Limbu family, tbheir first Diwali in Canada. This family was sponsored by Srishti’s members under the Group of 5 private sponsorship program. Their arrival in Canada ended 14 years on the run as refugees with no future in Thailand.
The entertainment segment came to an end with 2nd part of the Shiamak Davar dance company performance, followed by a DJ segment which got the most of the audience dancing. This was followed by a professional fireworks in Victoria Park, to mark Diwali. This was the first time in many decades that Victoria Park, in downtown London hosted fireworks. The spectacular fireworks lit up entire downtown London, as part of Diwali celebrations.
Our events are run entirely by volunteers and have always been blessed to have an inspired army of volunteers, who this time delivered their best, in all the different areas of the event.
This event is a highly subsidized event and would not be possible without support from our sponsors. Our grand sponsor this time was the London Heritage Council (City of London). We express our gratitude to each one of our sponsors
