Diwali Dhamaka 2018 on November 12th 2018, in London, ON, was bigger and sold out with 1200 attendees. The grand venue at Centennial Hall set the stage for the grander celebrations this year.
This year our theme was “Vande Mataram”, as we bowed down to honour our respective motherlands, their heroes, mothers and the feminine energy i.e. Shakti. The celebrations this year was about 10 hours away from the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in Europe, and return to peace, fitting into the theme of Vande Mataram.
Diwali dinner commenced on schedule at 5:00 p.m. 1200 attendees were served a sumptuous Indian cuisine in the dining hall. At 6:00 pm, celebrations got to a start in the main auditorium with Lakshmi Puja. The Puja was led by Acharya Vijay Gupta ji of Chinmaya Mission.
The entertainment section went through a new format. The program was divided up into blocks fitting the theme i.e Introduction, Patriotic, Culture, Regional & Finale blocks with minimal MC-ing, except for at the start of each block.
Celebrations got to a start right on time at 6:50 p.m. Lining up with the theme, the world famous Shiamak Davar Dance Company kicked off the programming with a powerful presentation of GANDHI, in the introduction block. High energy performances by community performers & the Karma Project band set the stage for powerful start to the celebrations.
Swami Prakashanda ji, the head of Chinmaya Mission Trinidad & Tobago was the Chief Guest at the event and delivered a powerful message of Diwali, in a short dynamic and engaging talk to the audience, during the cultural block.
In the Cultural block, Ram Leela presentation and our Punjabi & other community performers along with the Shiamak Davar dance comany paid tribute to our soldiers via high energy performances to the theme of Vande Mataram.
A presentation on Srishti’s activities and the WW1 Memorial of Indian Army Soldiers – Phase 1 and launch of Phase 2, brought out the various humanitarian and cultural activities of Srishti Foundation in the community. Early bird prizes were also given away to winners selected online and displayed on the giant screen
The Karma Project Band from Toronto presented a rocking instrumental fusion. They brought together the magic of violin, dhol, drums, flute and other instruments to rock the celebrations and had the audience on their feet.
The laser show and DJ Session rounded off the finale section with attendees dancing away till late in the night.
Our events are run entirely by volunteers and have always been blessed to have an inspired army of volunteers, who this time delivered their best, in all the different areas of the event.
